Toyota RAV4 New Key Fob Made on Site
This week we had the chance to help a customer who needed a new key fob for their 2024 Toyota RAV4. As you can see in the pictures, we handled everything right on site including coding and cutting the emergency key. Its important to mention the customer already had a working key and just wanted a spare key fob, which made the process faster and cheaper.
First important thing to mention, we used a brand new OEM key fob, which is much more expensive because its original. You can find many after market cheap keys online, but most often they just stop working after a year give or take. So make sure you always ask for a brand new OEM key (like you see in the pictures)
The process started with cutting a brand-new emergency key. Every smart key fob comes with a hidden metal key inside, which is very important in case the battery ever dies or the electronics stop working which happens usually after a couple of years of using the key fob.
We used our professional cutting machine to make an exact copy that fits perfectly into the lock. As you can see in the pictures, it was all done by the machine who read the cuts of the existing key, memorized it, and cut the new key by those cuts automatiucally. This guarantees that the customer will always be able to unlock their vehicle, no matter the situation.
Once the emergency key was ready, we moved on to programming the smart fob. Using our advanced diagnostic equipment, we connected to the RAV4’s computer system through the OBD port under the dashboard. This step allows us to sync the new fob with the vehicle’s security system. Without this step, the car will not recognize the key and it won’t start. The fact that the customer had an already working key which was registered, allowed us to use the option of “adding a key” which is faster than registering brand new key when all keys are lost.
Programming recent models of Toyota keys (2021,2022,2023,2024,2025) requires the right tools and knowledge, but we completed the process within 30 minutes.
After the system registered the new fob, we tested both key fobs and checked that everything working fine, including the lock, unlock, and starting the car of course. Everything worked perfectly.
Finally, we also showed the owner how to start and unlock the car in case the key fob battery dies.
Remember to check your key fob as well to make sure your emergency key is cut.
