In this job a locksmith had to program a new key for a Ford Edge. This specific one was a 2018 but this is the procedure that is done for all Ford key fobs including Ford Edge.

Here is how to program the new key fob:

1. Connect your coding machine into the OBD of the car. In this specific job the locksmith used Autel coding machine model IM608.
2. Then, select: manual selector
3. Then, after the system data initializing, choose “Ford – USA – Edge – and the specific year”
4.  In our case, 2018, we choose a smart key.
5. Then, you have to make sure that the additional new key fob you want to program is placed in the designated spot for coding, which is located under the arms rest. If you haven’t put it there, you should do it now. (you will see a slot or cut out that the key fob should be placed in)
6. Then continue and choose keyless system – key learning – add smart key – push the start button to start the process.
7. Then you will see a message: “establishing vehicle communication”. This means the machine is basically communicating with the car’s computer to gain access to program the new key fob.
8. Btw, the coding slot is also the slot where you should put the key fob in case your key fob battery is dead and you want to start your car. Very helpful and useful to know.
9. Now you should wait, usually between 3-10 minutes until the procedure is done. Most often is about 5 minutes but really different from one vehicle to another.
