Chevrolet Keyless Remote System - Instructions & Procedure
Chevrolet Keyless Remote System – Instructions & Procedure

First step – Choose the right keyless entry remote.

Choosing the right remote for your model is the most important thing. Some remotes look alike but have different frequencies they work on. Therefore, choosing the right is crucial.

The first thing you should do is verifying the year your car was made. The best way to do that is by the VIN number.

Second, now that we know the year and model, we can choose the right keyless remote.

Simply go to your Chevy model HERE and check the keyless entry remote for the relevant year.

Now that you know which remote you should use, let’s move on to the next step – buying the remote.

The second step – Buy the remote.

You have a few options for how to get the remote.

  1. Buy it online – Cheapest and most recommended way.
  2. Dealer
  3. Automotive Locksmith

It doesn’t really matter which option you choose if you get the right remote.

We already did the hard work for you by checking for each and every model which remote is the right one and therefore we would recommend getting it online yourself and save the money by going to the dealer or an automotive locksmith.

The third step – programming the remote.

Now you have the right remote, you just need to program it to your car.

First,

Make sure all doors are closed and sit in the driver seat. Now you should Locate the Data Link Port which It is located under the Driver’s side dash. There are no numbers there so keep in mind that number one is the one to the left. Identify ports eight (8) and four (4). The top row and contains ports one (1) through eight (8) and is wider than the bottom row.  The bottom row contains ports nine (9) through sixteen (16) and is not relevant for programming.

Now, look at ports 8 & 4. There should be metal pins inside them.

Second,

Connect port eight (8) to port (4) with a suitable jumper wire. Any short piece of conductive wire will work (i.e. – a paper clip). DO THAT ONLY WHEN THE CAR IS OFF!

The jumper wire will stay connected throughout the programming procedure.

This step is basically to get the vehicle into programming mode. In case you did it right, the door locks will cycle. This way you know you can move on to the next step.

Third,

Now, on the first remote, press and hold both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons together.

Wait between 10-20 seconds. In case you did it right, the door locks will cycle. This way you know you can move on to the next step.

Fourth,

You have one minute to complete this step.

Repeat the step above on all additional remotes, including working ones, to be programmed to the vehicle. Keep in mind, you have to do it even if you already have a working remote. Otherwise, it won’t work once you finish programming the new remotes.

Now, remove the jumper wire connected to the Data Link Port and test your new remotes. They should work.

Programming is now complete.
