The process of programming a new Honda keyless entry remote involve three phases.
- Choosing the right keyless for your specific model.
- Buying the remote
- Program the remote
Let’s go over each one of these steps.
First step – Choose the right keyless entry remote.
Choosing the right remote for your model is the most important thing. Some remotes look alike but have different frequencies they work on. Therefore, choosing the right is crucial.
The first thing you should do is verifying the year your car was made. The best way to do that is by the VIN number.
Second, now that we know the year and model, we can choose the right keyless remote.
Simply go to your Honda model HERE and check the keyless entry remote for the relevant year.
Now that you know which remote you should use, let’s move on to the next step – buying the remote.
The second step – Buy the remote.
You have a few options for how to get the remote.

(Method A)
First,
** Remember that for most Honda models, once you program new keyless entry remote, it will erase all previous remotes. Therefore, remember to have all your remotes available once you program a new one.
Also: Sometimes, for some models, every step of this method has to be made within 4 seconds. Therefore, if the programming instructions as written here don’t work, try to do the step within 4 seconds.
Make sure all doors are closed and sit in the driver seat. The following steps must be completed within 5 seconds from the previous step. In case it takes you longer, the system will exit programming mode and you will have to start all over again.
Turn the ignition switch to “ON” position. On one of your remotes(new or unprogrammed), press the “Lock” and “Unlock” buttons at the same time and then, turn the ignition switch to “Lock” position.
Now, do this all over again, two times more – using the same remote you used the first time. (Ignition switch to “on” pressing on buttons, and turn to “lock”)
Second,
After completing the previous step 3 times total, turn the ignition switch to “ON” position again and press the “lock” and “unlock” buttons on the same remote.
This step is basically to get the vehicle into programming mode. In case you did it right, the door locks will cycle. This way you know you can move on to the next step.
Third,
The vehicle is now in “programming mode”
Now, on any additional remotes you have, press “lock” and “unlock” buttons to program them.
Once you finished programming all your new remotes, you can move on to the final step.
Fourth,
Turn ignition switch to “Lock” position to exit the programming mode.
Programming is now complete.

First,
** Once you enter programming mode, all previous remotes will be erased. Therefore, make sure you have all your new and old remotes with you, as you will need to reprogram them again.
In addition, every step of this method has to be made within 4 or 5 seconds.
Make sure all doors are closed and unlocked and sit in the driver seat. The following steps must be completed within 5 seconds from the previous step. In case it takes you longer, the system will exit programming mode and you will have to start all over again.
Turn the ignition switch to “ON” position. On one of your remotes(new or unprogrammed), press the “Lock” and “Unlock” buttons at the same time and then, turn the ignition switch to “Lock” position.
Now, do this all over again, two times more – using the same remote you used the first time. (Ignition switch to “on” pressing on buttons, and turn to “lock”)
Second,
After completing the previous step 3 times total, turn the ignition switch to “ON” position again and press the “lock” and “unlock” buttons on the same remote.

Turn ignition switch to “Lock” position to exit the programming mode.
Programming is now complete.

Programming Instructions: (Method C)
First,
** Once you enter programming mode, all previous remotes will be erased. Therefore, make sure you have all your new and old remotes with you, as you will need to reprogram them again.
In addition, every step of this method has to be made within 5 seconds.
Make sure all doors are closed and unlocked and sit in the driver seat. After you closed all doors, open the driver side door only.
Turn the ignition switch to “ON” position and then to “Off” three times.
Second,
After completing the previous step 3 times total, close and open the driver side door twice.
Then, Turn the ignition switch to “ON” position and then to “Off” three times.
Third,
Within 10 seconds of completing the previous step, close and open the door. In case you did everything right the door locks will cycle, confirming the car is programming more.
The vehicle is now in “programming mode”
Now, press the “lock” button on the remote to program it. The doors lock will cycle to indicate that remote has been accepted.
Now press on the “unlock” button to confirm the programming. The doors lock will cycle to indicate that remote has been verified.
Do the same for each additional remote you like to program.
You can program up to three remotes.
Once you finished programming all your new remotes, you can move on to the final step.
Fourth,
Take the key out of the ignition.
Programming is now complete.
